Case Study
St Ursula's Catholic Primary School
A full perimeter security and safeguarding upgrade for a school that had experienced repeated break-ins, theft and vandalism.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Location: Straight Rd, Romford.
Sector: Education
Contract Amount: £184,650
Background: St Ursula’s Catholic Primary School had experienced multiple break-ins, theft and vandalism, with the existing 1.8m high palisade fencing no longer providing the level of security required. Alltype Fencing Specialists Ltd were appointed through a tender process for the Diocese, via a building consultant, to upgrade the school’s perimeter security, improve safeguarding and strengthen access control across the site.
Solution: Alltype were appointed as Principal Contractor for the project, taking responsibility for coordinating the fencing, automated gates, access control and associated contractor works. The existing 1.8m high palisade perimeter fencing was removed and replaced with a new 2.4m high 358 mesh fencing system, specified in the school’s red colour to match its identity as the “red school”.
Alongside the perimeter upgrade, we installed internal second-line-of-defence fencing to support safeguarding and better control movement around the school site. The scheme also included five new fully compliant automated gates, complete with access control, providing the school with a more secure and controlled entrance strategy.
As Principal Contractor, we coordinated the additional trades required to complete the package, including groundworks for ducting and access road widening, along with access control installation to multiple gates. Additional works were also incorporated during the project, including fencing to a new SEND area and MUGA court fencing.
The works were delivered across both school holiday periods and live term-time environments. All Alltype operatives are DBS-enhanced checked, allowing us to work safely and appropriately within the school setting. The completed installation significantly improved the school’s security, safeguarding and overall site appearance, while delivering the strong red visual identity the school wanted to achieve.
