Background: Horndon on the Hill Primary School contacted Alltype Fencing Specialists Ltd directly after being advised by their insurance company to improve safeguarding at the front of the site. The existing low-level fencing did not provide sufficient control over the front area or car park, allowing people to enter and leave freely. The school already had a preferred specification, including higher fencing and an automated cantilever sliding gate.

Solution: Alltype attended site to review the school’s proposed specification, assess the existing layout and confirm whether the preferred solution would work practically in the space available. The school had selected the fence type, height and an automated cantilever sliding gate, so our role was to check suitability, advise on any risks or requirements, and ensure the final installation would be fit for purpose.

Following our review, we advised the school that due to the proposed height increase and the fencing facing onto the public highway, planning permission would likely be required. The school obtained planning approval, allowing the works to proceed.

Alltype were appointed as Principal Contractor and delivered the full package of works. We removed and replaced the existing front fencing with new 1.8m high RoSPA-specification bowtop railings, together with an automated cantilever sliding gate to control vehicle access into the small car park. This allowed the school to better manage who entered the site and helped improve safeguarding at the front entrance.

The package also included two additional manually operated gates and one access-controlled gate. Alltype coordinated and delivered the associated groundworks, concrete bases, ducting, electrical works, automation, access control and handover documentation.
